Physical Therapy

Physical therapists treat patients with musculoskeletal conditions, such as injuries from an accident, postural changes from osteoporosis, work-related injuries, stroke-related deficiencies, sports injuries, and more.

Usually, the goal of physical therapy is to decrease a patient’s pain while increasing his or her activity level or range of motion. Some treatment might result in a little discomfort, but the role of physical therapy is to minimize pain, not cause it. Physical therapists use several methods to accomplish their goals, including ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and traction, all of which relieve muscle spasms and loosen tight muscles while increasing circulation. At the same time, treatment often involves exercises to stretch and strengthen muscles, but this varies with each patient.

Individual symptoms dictate how quickly a patient progresses. Two people can have the same diagnosis on paper but react differently to treatment, so Lake Hospital System physical therapists develop treatment plans based on the person, not the diagnosis.

Our physical therapists are highly trained and stay current through ongoing education. Some have more experience or training in certain areas; we direct patients to the therapist who can best meet their needs.
