Visiting Hours and Guidelines

On most units Lake Hospital System offers flexible visiting hours, but we suggest that famiily members and friends visit between 11 am and 8 pm (general floors). The Center for Geriatric Psychiatry welcomes visitors Monday through Friday between 6 and 8 pm and on weekends and holidays from 1 to 2:30 pm and 6 to 8 pm.

No more than two visitors are allowed at the bedside at any one time. Visitors in semi-private rooms should be considerate of both patients. People with colds, sore throats, or any contagious diseases should not visit patients. Please keep visits short, so that the patient can rest.

We invite children to visit on most units, as long as they are free of infection and under adult supervision. On the labor/delivery/postpartum units, we restrict young visitors to those who are siblings of newborns to guard against the spread of cold and flu viruses. Children are not permitted in the Center for Geriatric Psychiatry.

Cell Phones

Visitors may use cell phones in the main lobby, the cafeteria, and the surgical family waiting area. Because of interference with patient equipment, we do not permit cell phones in patient care areas.

Wireless Internet Access

For your convenience, wireless Internet access is available throughout LakeWest and LakeEast hospitals.

Cafeteria

We welcome visitors in the cafeterias at LakeWest and LakeEast hospitals 24 hours a day, where vending machines are available. In addition, food is served during the following times:

  • 11 am to 1:30 pm
  • 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm

Flowers, Balloons, and Gifts for Patients

We welcome flower deliveries to all patients, except those in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU),where live flowers are not permitted. If live flowers are delivered to a patient in the ICU, they will be returned to the florist until the patient is able to receive them. Patients in the ICU may receive artificial flowers. Visitors should check with the patient's caregiver before bringing gifts of food or beverages to patients. In the ICU, please check with the caregiver regarding any gifts for patients.

Because of the increase in latex allergies in patients, physicians, and health care workers, Lake Hospital System does not accept delivery of latex balloons. Mylar balloons are accepted.

Meditation Chapel

A meditation chapel is located on the main floors of both LakeWest Hospital and LakeEast Hospital. We invite people of all faiths to visit the chapel for prayer and quiet reflection.

We Welcome Service Animals

In public areas of all Lake Hospital System facilities we welcome guide dogs, signal dogs, or other animals trained to perform tasks for a person with a disability. Patients who are admitted cannot bring animals into certain areas, such as the operating room, ICU, labor and delivery, and other such areas. If you have questions, call 440-354-2400 or 440-953-9600 and ask to speak with the nursing supervisor. Patients or visitors with service animals assume responsibility for the care, feeding, and sanitary needs of the animal.
